Moab Day #6 - Kane Creek Trail

After the heavy sand-laden winds of the day before, it was a pleasure to awaken to a quiet, sunny day with clear blue skies. We followed the Colorado River to the start point of the Kane Creek Trail.
We read that we would cross and recross the creek approximately 60 times.
It doesn't look like much from here but this hill became quite interesting very shortly. Vic decided to walk it first to pick his approach (line). The beginning.....
After getting to the top we waited for three other vehicles to see that they made it safely.
Visiting with these folks we learned that they were collecting coprolite. They gave us a couple of pieces, shared what it was and where to look for it.
Already high above the creek, now we are even higher and the ledge is narrow.
Here is the coprolite that they gave us and the pieces that Vic found.
Oh, coprolite is fossilized dinosaur poop! Some has traces of red which was blood - a carniverous dinosaur. Other pieces had a greenish cast - vegetarians. One never knows what one will learn from a casual encounter.
The dinosaurs roamed these rocky bluffs adjacent to the water source.
