2009 All-Breeds Jeep Show - July 18-19, 2009

This was our third year to attend this show in York, PA but the first that we had a Jeep to show. About 500 Jeeps were registered and many more came to be seen and have fun. This was the view from our campsite. Vic drove the truck and pulled the RV while I got to drive the Rubicon. Here we are following another Jeep over just a small part of the obstacle course set up for us to play. The BIG rock course is on the left while the more tame but still challenging is on the right. We are part way over the smaller rock course.
Here it is Sunday and there weren't so many vehicles on the field but I forgot to get the Rubicon's picture Saturday.
More obstacle course.
A duece and a half showing off. No big deal for him.
After our desert adventures this was pretty tame stuff but still fun. And it's always educational to see how some of these folks have their vehicles tricked out. Plus there are always a few rare beasts to see.

A Special Week Has Ended.....Or How Blessed Are We? July 11, 2009

We have just had the most special week. Joe, a grandson from Texas, left today to return to Houston. We extended an invitation to come up and he instantly accepted. He is 23, a fulltime college student and has a fulltime job. With only two weeks paid vacation annually we feel pretty blessed that he wanted to come up and spend a week with us. Added to that Dan wanted to come over on his days off from his summer job.
Joe enjoyed woodworking in high school and I put in a request for a pergola if he was feeling up to the challenge. Dan enjoyed woodshop also but unfortunately could not stay (job interferred with all the fun) to see the construction phase. Grandpa had to fill his shoes.
Boys talking shop???
Measuring....... Cutting...... Finished product ready to go into place!!! All this work for a hops vine I've wanted for over 30 years. Thanks, boys and grandpa (other boy)! And thank you, Monica, for the vine! I can't wait to do the ground prep, plant the vine and other things, hang a basket and birdhouse.......it goes on and on. And what a wonderful reminder of special time with special grandsons.
Monica rode over on her bike to visit with Joe yesterday. He took it for a spin - twice!
This is how two happy grandparents look!

One never knows........ July 11, 2009

You hear stories of interesting finds in barns, garages, fields, and woods but you never think there might be something of interest to you nearly in your own backyard........
Vic was discussing Jeeps with a neighbor recently and Jim told him he had an old Jeep in his woods. Apparently it had been there a number of years and wasn't in the best of condition. He didn't know much about it but if Vic had a use for it, it was free for the taking
.
One evening this past week Vic, Joe, Dan and I took a drive up the hill to have a look. It turned out to be a 1957 and had a few parts that Vic felt he could use on the 1955. The next afternoon the boys brought her out of the woods and to our home.
The tank on the back is a maple syrup reservoir that has been in Jim's family for a few generations. That will stay in the family.
