Apache Leap Mountain

The story goes that there was a conflict between the Apaches and the US Calvary where 77 Apaches were trapped on a rocky ledge.  Rather than surrender they rode their horses off the cliff to their deaths.
We took a drive in that direction.  The following pix are a few from that day

The plant to the left of the Jeep is Ocotillo - my VERY favorite desert plant.  It's also known as Devil's Walking Stick.  We also have two here on our rv site that I'll have to photograph more closely so you can see the thorns.  It's an amazing plant that only sprouts leaves after a rain and susequently flowers.  The flowers, I think, are breathtaking.

Much of this is open range land

Naturally there had to be one boulder field to end the day.
