Back Road to Crown King

Crown King is the historic site of a gold mining town where the first claim was filed in 1875.  Now it's a mountain destination.  The back road is for serious 4x4 travel only.  Most of it is manageable by most anyone in a high clearance behicle BUT there are two areas with fun obstacles for the rest of us.

This is the first one of those.

One dirtbiker passed us and had no difficulty at all.  This, the second one, stalled right here.  After a false start of two, he drove right up and on as well.

Now it's Vic's turn

Good job

Obstacle #2 through the windshield.  You've got to be kidding.

Vic walks it first to find his line

Note the air under the driver's front tire

Whew!  The passenger/photographer was happy to see this one behind us.  The driver didn't seem to find it too big a deal.

A pretty water crossing

The restaurant and saloon are now the center of activity in this town.  The building was brought here in pieces, on the backs of mules, in 1910 from the mining town of Oro Belle when that mine closed.  At its peak the town had 500 buildings, 1 telephone, 2 Chinese restaurants and a post office.
