The Las Cruces 4-Wheel Drive Club puts on a terrific event each year. The 22nd annual Chile Challenge is now over for 2012.
The event is held at the Dona Ana County Fairgrounds.
We took the RV and camped on the grounds for 5 days which was wonderfully convenient.
The first day we took part in the Hopping Jalapeno Trail run.
Here fourteen vehicles air down in preparation.
Heading out to the day's excitement.
The vehicle ahead of us climbs this ledge - the first small obstacle.
Here it gets a bit more serious.
Quite a drop. Check out that angle!
At each obstacle the leader goes first, then spots for the remainder of the group.
Note the rear tire and look at her big smile!
Here comes Vic for his turn.
Oops! That nasty little rock!
How many enthusiasts does it take to fix a a tire?
All Vic did was get out the tools.
Nice of the younger men to pitch in like this.
Thanks, guys!
And the man to Vic's left is Menlo who is 85 years old
and
still 4-wheeling with his dog.
How great is that.
Okay, let's try this again.
Success!
This obstacle is called the "Greasepit" for obvious reasons.
Pretty cool.
A good spotter is important.
Coming off the last obstacle
A good day ends!
